There has always been a great tendency to load bullets for auto pistols longer than normal due to fear that deeper seating of the bullet would result in excessive pressure in the rounds. My variations get as low as 1.154 and the minimum length for the powder bullet combo is 1.150. My bullet seating die is currently set so OAL comes out at 1.12 inch. I have loaded from 1.130 to 1.165 without issues. At the extreme, shortening the OAL by as little as 0.030" can produce a pressure change from 28,000 CUP to 62,000 CUP, according to pressure test data produced by Speer and printed on page 349 of their #10 … So I set it to 1.164.
